1. Location and description
The hotel is located in Gomadinger District of Offenhausen (postcode 72532) on the Swabian Alb. The building is embedded in the rural structure of the surrounding area.
The location is geographically and historically significant: the source of the river Lauter rises in Offenhausen, marking the beginning of the Grosses Lautertal valley. Furthermore, the Marbach State Stud in the immediate vicinity. The townscape of Offenhausen is characterised by historic architecture, in particular the abbey church in the historic abbey courtyard as well as various preserved stables of the main and state stud farm.
Due to this location in the biosphere reserve, the hotel frequently serves as a starting point for tourist activities such as hiking or cycling in the region Reutlingen/Münsingen.
2. Facilities, rooms and wellness
The country hotel Winter offers its guests various relaxation facilities.
- Facilities and rooms: The hotel has a total capacity of 22 guest rooms. These are divided into the categories of single rooms, double rooms (optionally with or without a balcony) and a suite. The majority of the rooms have been renovated. As part of these modernisation measures, the carpets in all units were removed and replaced with vinyl flooring.
Swimming pool Outside there is a heated pool measuring 14×5 metre, which can be used across seasons. The technical equipment of the pool was provided by the specialised manufacturer Ospa swimming pool technology realised. The system has a fully automated measurement and control system (e.g. Ospa-BlueControl), which ensures constant water quality. Technical specialities include innovative water treatment designed to, oxygen-rich and odourless water to be produced. Through the use of this modern filtration and disinfection technology, a high level of skin and eye tolerance is ensured that goes beyond conventional chlorine standards. The pool was newly built in 2024 by the company Hans Klein from Schlierbach.
Sauna area: In parallel with the construction of the outdoor pool facility, a comprehensive modernisation of the wellness area took place in 2024. This included the renovation of the Finnish sauna, which has a standard temperature of approx. 90∘C is operated, as well as the complete renewal of the shower facilities.
External facilities: The wellness and outdoor area is quietly situated at the rear of the hotel and directly borders the edge of the forest. In addition to the lawn and terrace, the grounds include a changing house newly built during the construction of the pool. This building is equipped with sanitary facilities, changing cubicles and showers.
3. Gastronomy
The hotel's dining facilities comprise a total of three dining rooms as well as a south-facing terrace with a view into the adjacent valley. The total catering capacity is approximately 100 seats.
Culinary profile The kitchen at the Winter restaurant pursues a youthful, modern approach to Swabian cuisine, which is occasionally complemented by Mediterranean influences. A central feature is the consistent avoidance of convenience products (ready meals); the dishes are freshly prepared. Particular emphasis is placed on the processing of self-sourced game. The hotel and restaurant are located directly in their own hunting grounds, from which the game for the kitchen is sourced.
Premises and interior design The main restaurant underwent comprehensive refurbishment and renovation in 2024. The redesign was carried out by the interior design company Kersting Contract Interiors (Bad Wünnenberg-Haaren) realised. The interior combines modern and rustic elements, thus visually reflecting the stylistic direction of the kitchen.
In addition to the main restaurant, the property features another rustically furnished dining room as well as a separate function room for private events.

The hotel was built in 1974 by Dietmar Gulewitsch built and extended in 1987 by means of an annex. In 2016, the property was sold to the married couple Margit and Klaus Winter. Since the takeover, the business has been operating under the name Restaurant and Country Hotel Winter continued.
The company is family-run. The daughter Anja Winter, a qualified hotel management assistant, works in the business as the junior manager. Their son, Marc Winter, served as the establishment's head chef alongside Klaus Winter until June 2024. Since June 2024, he has been the owner of the Offenhausen Stud Inn in the same place.
